I left my job because I realized that, I could make more by myself and the company was paying me much less than I worth.

There are many ways to earn money. That's one.
I hate it, but it happens. Especially here in Spain, where the salaries are precarious.

The company I'm founding is trying to change that.

It's a complicated problem.

There are companies that pay you just a little bit less than you worth. That difference is the price of the stability you get working for a company instead of for yourself. We should respect more those companies. I think.

@ekaitz_zarraga Well like, I worked for Walmart for 10 years before they shoved me out the door when I came out as transgender and the whole time I was there, I started at like 7.60 an hour (USD) and I think I ended at 11 dollars. That was over 10 years and 11 dollars an hour in my state is still not even enough for a 1 bedroom apartment. It's ridiculous, and that's how lots of jobs are here

if they'll even hire you, which is my predicament. I'm just here making music, writing books, doing this, doing that because I literally cannot get work

@msk I worked for a company, the best job I had in terms of salary where I doubled my previous salary.

I was a Research and Development Engineer and I was earning like 10€ an hour.
I could pay the rent with that, but never buy a house. I had no future.

I was working as engineer. Imagine what waiters are earning here...

It's ridiculous.

Now I'm funding my own company built on my principles in order to change this.
I'll probably fail, but I'll try.

@msk @ekaitz_zarraga my background is in telecommunications, they wanted me to make detonators for nuclear weapons for a year before they would let me work on satellite networks.

That is the big reason I am now living in Paris.

@inmysocks @msk In my case, they wanted to make a tool to track people's position using the "worlds largest wifi network". They actually did it.

I left the job before they asked me to take part on that.

@msk @ekaitz_zarraga Also my research has a lot to do with making networks that are resilient to node failures and things like that. You could use the same things to make automated systems that can prevent any wireless communications systems in an area from working. Most of the companies that were interested in it wanted that side, not the communications side.

We're paid on a first-derivative basis ($/time is essentially constant) , effectively 0-deriv (we spend it), while the bosses are paid on a 2nd-derivative basis ($/time increases over time because they get equity shares and receive enough to put money into investments which receive nontrivial returns).

In other words, they get increasing ownership of a small piece of the means of production, while we just get money that we have to spend anyway.
