I think, after watching them for a long time, I've been around since before they existed, that their goal isn't specificity, but to cast a wide net and hope they can get as much data as possible from doing so.

This gives them both money and power, so they can keep doing it, and ironically, it gives them trust because people get things for free for them and they often 'give away' things as in open source them or help with such projects, it's very incidious.

Well, I checked earlier and to be accurate Squoosh is open source, but the other points are true, yes.
