(-) allegations of abuse, calls to ostrasize Show more
Nearly every trans person I know has been put on blast by someone else, often with allegations of abuse or grooming. I very rarely hear these accusations from a first-hand source; they're mostly passed on as "open secrets" and "x person told me" type things.
I take allegations of abuse very seriously. But I also know first-hand how easily allegations can be weaponized. I've had it done to me.
I love how it’s clearly called boost but we collectively decided it’s a retoot
Weird how sex work is criminalized but being a nazi isnt
@Laurelai oo ooo can i tell the story about social coop and the techbros who wanted to play at rules-lawyering a co-op and extracted money from members without actually doing anything useful and then let several of their members run a trans woman off their instance for daring to suggest that "trans women aren't women" shouldn't be permitted along with nazi bullshit, in a thread about developing a CoC that was like over a year old
So to new folks let me tell you a story about an instance that was called bofa.lol
This instance was run by some white cishet dude who liked to pretend to be woke.
He used his instance to amass leftist users who liked to engage in callouts and harassment.
He tore through the fedverse attacking trans women he didnt like in the name of social justice.
Then he got caught shielding his rapist best friend and the instance self destructed.
The moral here is dont trust the self righteous witch hunters
So, okay. This needs to be said and understood:
KiwiFarms, Encyclopedia Dramatica, and 4chan are NOT reliable sources.
Their entire reason for being is to manufacture reasons to ostracize people. They are, by any definition, hate machines.
You know the saying "trust but verify"? I am telling you: you can't trust these sources.
If you're going to attack and harass someone, find a better source than KiwiFarms, Encyclopedia Dramatica, and 4chan. Please.
It's good praxis to block “free speech” instances. As we can see today, free speech is really a euphemism for “unmoderated”, and spammers know this.

We have pretty effective tools for excluding people that we don't like, or consider threatening, or unwelcome. Use them.
But pressuring others to ostracise people, and then attacking them if they don't, crosses a line for me. I don't care how right you are or how just your cause. It's still abusive.
call out culture, meta ish Show more
listen if all you have to show for accusations are right wing sites or screen shots (not directly taken by you from the OP, or also from unreliable sites) that can easily be faked
it’s just not good enough
it’s too easy to start a false story about someone online and have it gain traction. esp when we rely on screen shots so much
so maybe think about the sources people are providing when they are “calling out” someone
If someone tells you that you must shun this or that person they likely have an ulterior motive.
But dont worry those instances are blocked. You dont want the witch hunting parts of mastodon anyways
Oh its a good thing i have those instances blocked.
Imagine coming to Mastodon from Tumblr not knowing anything about it and "claiming it for the gays"
Sweetie, no. It's already a royal rainbow in here. Have a seat, let me pour you some tea

I wish I could find my last toot about this. I swear to fuck we are having the same conversations over and over in an attempt to stop us from making progress.
NO SHIT DEPLATFORMING WORKS.
You know how I know? Because I was deplatformed. Same as many victims of Nazi harassment squads. Why are you forgetting all of us exist?
My entire life was fucked sideways from sunday and I have never recovered because I never got the help I needed.
NO SHIT IT WORKS.
